Hopeful Friday: Playing in the Dirt and Making Worm Friends

Thank goodness it's Friday.  It's a doozy of a day, but I feel hopeful.  Weekends bring me so much hope...more time as a family, a teammate during the day to count on and lean on (and sometimes I literally lean on him when my body is not functioning as it should...wondering why?  Click HERE.) a chance to recharge, really tackle some of my to dos, and a chance to gather and worship with my faith community.  I even get to sing on the Worship Team this Sunday.  So today, Friday, even though it started out a little rough, I breathe a little sigh of relief.

You see, I like to look on the bright side of life...and share that with you.  However, my life is not always rainbows and roses, nor am I in a constant state of smiles and happiness.  Really, and you can confirm this with my husband, I can be the moodiest, most negative, and unmotivated girl on the block.  Usually it stems from my body and the troubles I am experiencing with it.  So sometimes, on a day like today, when I'm especially worn down (when my body is feeling arthritic, sore, stiff, and pretty much useless when it comes to accomplishing anything worth a hip-hip-hooray around this house), and the the skies are gloomy (spring weather just hasn't decided to join us quite yet)...I let it all sink in and can too easily dwell in a state of The Blahs.  The day becomes overwhelming, too much, a weight on my shoulders that I can't quite lift off!  Eeek!  Sounds so pathetic and depressing!  Ick!

But then my little buddy runs up to me, with his boots in his hand and says, "Let's go play outside!"  His eyes are filled with excitement.  Then he scrambles to the door of the garage and shouts out with joy, "Let's get the bucket and shovels too!"  And the cherry on top, I suggest the large shovel, rake, and hoe, and he is thrilled, shouting out a, "Yay!" while throwing his hands in the air.  "Thank you Mommy," he finishes.  Wow.

For goodness sakes, when I feel a little heavy (and not from eating too much chocolate) and overwhelmed, when I feel like I just want to lie down and be done, please let me remember this feeling...this joy...the simplicity of being in this moment...and seeing life...seeing a gloomy day...through the eyes of a child...my sweet precious child...as he plays in the dirt and makes worm friends.

What's down there?

Let's dig...

...really dig.

What Mom?  Yeah!  I'm doing great!

Look Mom, I found a worm.

He likes me.  Lots of laughs and giggles.

What a wiggly worm!

Be careful with him buddy.  Be nice to the worm.
I think he really likes dirt.

(He drops him in the bucket.)

Is there dirt in that bucket bud?
Yes Mom!

You okay in there worm?

Mom, I found a worm!
(As if I didn't know this...)

Worm, are you really okay?
Just wanting to be sure...

Happy weekend all!
Hope it's filled with hope and happy moments!

Friday Favorites: Wall-E the Movie...Kind of Forgot How Sweet

For our trip to Portland recently, we bought the movie Wall-E so Coop could enjoy it on the trip.  One night in the hotel, we ended up all cuddling in bed for family movie night.  What a treat.

Wall-E (Single-Disc Edition)

I had forgotten just how sweet this movie is and the great message it provides.  Have you seen it?  There is no villain really (well, the captain does face a mutiny by Auto, the computer), and in the end, good prevails (which almost always happens in Disney movies anyhow...but just sayin').  The main characters (robots...intertwined with a few cartoon humans part way through) give us a great picture of friendship, sacrifice, kindness, innocence, doing what's right, staying focused on the task at hand, and perseverance.

A few moments required a little explaining for Cooper along with a comforting squeeze, but there was nothing too tragic or severe that would scar his sweet little mind for life...everything could be easily reasoned and understood.

Which I have to say, you think all those Disney movies all look so kid friendly...until you have a kid.  Geesh, when you get to thinking, there are only a couple appropriate for Coop at age 2...and I would argue even ages 3 and 4, maybe even 5 or 6 are a bit young too.  What with scantily clad ladies romping around, scary villains with evil looking purple and green faces, violence and fighting, tragic and terrifying moments...visuals that as a child would completely disrupt and aid in forming your sense of safety and understanding of what is good in this world...my goodness.  A little dramatic, but goodness.  Can you tell I have an opinion?

When it comes to a great snuggle and movie time with my buddy, Wall-E gets two thumbs up from me.  We just watched it again today.  Definitely one of my favorites.

Just for kicks and giggles (as this is by no means a sponsored post), I looked around on Amazon and found quite the array of Wall-E products.  Sometimes I just get a big kick out of virtual shopping on Amazon...you just never know what you will find...cracks me up.  You can click on any picture in this post to get to it's listing on Amazon.  Enjoy!
